The Upshur - Gregg Soil& Water Conservation District is composed of Upshur and Gregg Counties. The area is drained by the Sabine River on the south and Little and Big Cypress on the north. The terrain is rich sandy loam soil except on hillsides where the topsoil is thin and under-layed with clay. There are plenty of ever running creeks and branches supplied by thousands of springs that never go dry.
The SWCD objective is to encourage the use of each acre of land, rural and urban, within its capabilities and the treatment of each acre of land in accordance with its needs for protection and improvement. To protect and promote the health, recreation, safety and general welfare of the people of the District by encouraging conservation of the soil, water, plants and wildlife which are the people basic resources.
SWCD # 417 strive to make available to all landowners, entities of government and other groups and individuals in the District, the advice and assistance to all State and Federal agencies qualified and authorized to render such assistance.
